Hi, Stranger!

Help support "Putty Hill"! → kickstarter.com

Hey everyone!  “Putty Hill” the new feature by Baltimore filmmaker Matt Porterfield, needs your help!  It’s premiering at the Berlinale right now, and then screening at SXSW.  It’s supposed to be awesome!  Go check it out! — and if you do, tell Joyce Kim, the cute lil producer, that I said hi!

I have kept up with you for a while ever since discovering your work on Vimeo. You're stuff is great. What is your next project/film?

Thanks! I’m currently working on the next film.  All I can tell you is that it’s stop-motion,  will be about 5 minutes, and I might get a nice tan from working on it.

Holy crap, check this out.

Johnny Kelly, director of beautiful stop-motion things, just did this gorgeous opening for a Dutch children’s show:

“Het Klokhuis” Opening titles from Johnny Kelly on Vimeo.

What’s even crazier is how he did it.  Detailed making of here:

What are some of your fav stop-motion films and directors? Are there any artists in particular who inspire you? P.S. - your work is great. It almost seems like you're having way more fun than the rest of us (this is not a bad thing).

Thanks!  See below for the list of my fav directors/artists.  Some fav stop-mo films? hmmm, probably Hedgehog in the fog, The seed, Western Spaghetti, MUTO, Komposition in Blau (by Fischinger), there are a ton more, I’m just blanking out right now…

should I stay or should I go?

It’s rather philosophical, really.  I say go.

Hello! I study stop motion animation at the Cleveland Institute of Art. So just out of curiosity, who are some of your favorite animators? (stop motion or otherwise)

Yea! Keepin’ Stop-mo alive!  Some of my faves are PES, Paul Driessen, Andreas Nilsson, David O’Reilly, Igor Kovalyov, and the Fleischer Bros.

where'd you go to school for your art?

It’s a combo of MICA (in Baltimore), CalArts, and being self taught.
